Balasore: In a significant breakthrough, Balasore police arrested the prime suspect in the robbery involving gunfire in Dayanidhipur village under Soro police station limits in Balasore on Wednesday night.
As per reports, seven masked robbers had looted jewellery worth over Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash after tying the family members of Manjulata Nayak and assaulting them.
Addressing a press meet, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj Prasad revealed that following a swift investigation, the police apprehended the kingpin of the robbery gang Manoranjan Pani and recovered gold, silver, cash, two firearms, and 20 live bullets from his possession.
The SP also revealed that Pani, a notorious criminal, is implicated in 19 cases across Balasore, Bhadrak, Basudebpur, and Rourkela, where he had been instilling fear through his criminal activities.
“The robbery took place around midnight when seven to eight armed miscreants broke into the house of Manjulata Nayak, tied up five family members, and assaulted them. The robbers also fired shots from the rooftop, injuring two neighbours who were rushed to Balasore district headquarters hospital alongside other victims. Condition of the injured neighbours is stated to be stable now”, maintained the SP.
