Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today applauded Odisha weightlifter Harshvardhan Sahu of Ganjam for excelling in the recently concluded Khelo India Youth Games.
In his Mann Ki Baat radio programme, Modi said Harshvardhan Sahu, among others, won the hearts of every Indian with his brilliant performance.
“A total of 26 records were made in Khelo India this time. In the weightlifting competitions, the brilliant performances of Asmita Dhone of Maharashtra, Harshvardhan Sahu of Odisha, and Tushar Chaudhary of Uttar Pradesh won everyone’s heart,” PM Modi stated.
In the weightlifting 49-kilogram class, Harshvardhan Sahu recently set a new record in the Khelo India Youth Games with a gold in the clean and jerk category, lifting 115 kilograms.
He surpassed the previous record held by Babulal Hembrom of Jharkhand, who had lifted 114 kilograms. Sahu beat Niklesh Lakra of Jharkhand in this category.
