Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing, police on Monday busted a country-made firearm manufacturing unit in Beherabhuin village under Rengali police limits in Angul district.
One person has been identified as Rajan Kisan of the village, was arrested in connection with the case and was produced before the court today.
Based on intelligence inputs, separate raids were carried out by Khamar and Pallahara police teams. While Khamar police conducted a raid in Jambua village under Jharbeda Gram Panchayat, Pallahara police raided Sali village under Nagira Gram Panchayat.
During the operations, police seized country-made firearms, raw materials, and machinery used in the manufacture of illegal weapons.
With this, the number of illegal firearm manufacturing units busted in the region has risen to three.
Police sources said investigations are underway to ascertain possible links to a larger inter-district arms racket.
