Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This system is likely to move slowly northwards and intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, for May 28, the weather office has issued an orange warning for four districts in Odisha, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jajpur, predicting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds (40-50 kmph), and heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for 19 districts, including Puri, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Bargarh, Nuapada, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Nabarangapur and Boudh, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning are expected. Residents are advised to be aware and take necessary precautions.
Besides, thunderstorms with lightning with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Angul, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Balangir, and Nayagarh today as per the IMD prediction.
