Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange and yellow warnings to multiple districts, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in 17 districts within the next two-three hours.
The regional weather department has issued a nowcast warning in this regard at 1:45 pm.
The IMD has placed Malkangiri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, and Sambalpur districts under an orange alert, forecasting a high likelihood of moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy rain within the next three hours.
Residents in these districts are advised to be prepared for minor damage to loose structures, banana trees, and standing crops. They are urged to keep a watch on the weather for worsening conditions and be ready to move to safer places accordingly.
Besides, Cuttack, Khurda, Koraput, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts have been placed under a yellow alert. These districts are likely to witness light to moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rain within the said period.
Residents in these districts are advised to be aware of the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
