Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Manoj Mohanty, a Section Officer of the Sub Divisional Veterinary Officer (SDVO) office in Puri for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000.
According to an official press release, Mohanty demanded and accepted the bribe from a complainant who was seeking withdrawal of an Electric Vehicle (EV) advance sanctioned by the government. Despite the sanctioned amount, the officer reportedly delayed the process and sought a bribe to expedite the payment.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance sleuths conducted a trap operation and caught Mohanty red-handed while accepting the bribe. The seized amount was recovered from his possession.
Further, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations associated with Mohanty to uncover any additional evidence.
A case has been registered at Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and the investigation is ongoing.
