Bhubaneswar: A youth died and three others were critically injured in a lightning strike in the Bangriposi area of Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Bhim Charan Marndi (25) of Gohirapal village.
According to reports, Marndi went to feed cattle near the forest alongside Jagannath Marndi (40) from Bholagadia village around 1 pm. As the rain and lightning intensified, the duo sought shelter under a tree when the thunderstorm struck. Bhim Charan Marndi died on the spot. Jagannath, who was critically injured, was taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Mayurbhanj District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for advanced treatment.
In a related incident, Maidi Soren (26) and Ramachandra Soren (7), residents of Bholagadia village under Nischinta Gram Panchayat, also suffered injuries from the storm and are currently receiving care at the Bangriposi Community Health Centre (CHC).
