Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued Orange and Yellow warnings for nine districts across Odisha, forecasting moderate thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, lightning, and light to moderate rainfall over the next three hours.
According to the IMD’s nowcast bulletin issued at 3 pm, an Orange Warning has been sounded for the districts of Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Jagatsinghpur, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar city), and Kendrapara. These areas are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 30–40 kmph, light to moderate rain, and lightning activity.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Sundargarh, and Deogarh, where similar weather conditions are expected.
The IMD has cautioned that the weather conditions may lead to minor damage, including: Disruption to loose or unsecured structures, Damage to banana trees and Potential harm to standing crops.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions. People are urged to stay indoors during lightning, secure vulnerable structures, and be prepared to move to safer locations if required.
