Bhubaneswar: Two persons have died after allegedly consuming suspected spurious liquor in the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar, prompting swift action from the Excise Department, which has sealed the concerned liquor outlets and launched an investigation.
The deceased have been identified as Biswajit Beura and Apei, both residents of the Laxmisagar locality. Apei reportedly died four days ago, while Biswajit succumbed on Tuesday.
According to reports, the two were among five friends who purchased liquor from local outlets in Laxmisagar and consumed it during a feast. All five reportedly fell critically ill shortly afterward, raising suspicions of alcohol adulteration.
The deaths have sparked concern among locals, who staged a protest outside the liquor outlets, demanding accountability and strict action.
In response to the public outcry, the Excise Department has sealed the relevant foreign liquor outlets near Station Bazaar on Cuttack-Puri Road and collected liquor samples for laboratory testing.
Further investigation is underway to determine the source and composition of the suspected spurious liquor.
