Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Revenue Inspector Manoj Kumar Behera and Amin Bichitrananda Satpathy of Kandarpur Revenue Circle in Cuttack district for accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000.
According to an official press release, the duo was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from a shop owner near the Kandarpur Revenue Office. The bribe was sought to furnish a favorable report in a mutation case involving the conversion of agricultural land to homestead land and issuance of the Record of Rights (ROR) in favor of the complainant.
The complainant had been seeking the report for over a month but was met with demands for a bribe to initiate the application and process the favorable report. Left with no option, he reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.
Following a trap, Vigilance officers arrested Behera and Satpathy while they were accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs 12,000 was recovered from their possession.
Subsequent searches were conducted at three locations linked to Behera and two locations connected to Satpathy to probe any disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 (Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 17/2025).
Investigation is ongoing.
