Baripada (Mayurbhanj): The Mayurbhanj district administration has announced the closure of all schools on Monday (June 30) in view of the very heavy rainfall forecast and a ‘Red’ alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the district.

According to a telephonic message from the District Education Officer (DEO), all schools will remain closed throughout the day. Furthermore, all Anganwadi centres across the district will be shut for three days starting Monday as a precautionary measure. However, the supplementary Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations will proceed as scheduled. Take Home Ration (THR) has already been distributed to children at all 5,152 Anganwadi centres in the district.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar today issued a ‘Red’ warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore districts. The alert predicts very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h on June 30.

Residents have been advised to exercise caution and stay indoors during the adverse weather conditions.
