Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Angul on Monday sentenced former Supply Inspector Babilata Behera to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a bribery case.
According to an official press release, Behera, who served in Kaniha Block, was found guilty of accepting a bribe of Rs 43,000 from a sub-wholesaler of K. Oil. The bribe was taken in exchange for signing the utilisation certificate and issuing a release order in the sub-wholesaler’s favor.
She was convicted under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and fined alongside the prison sentence. Following her conviction, she was taken into custody to serve her sentence.
Odisha Vigilance authorities have stated that they will seek her dismissal from service in accordance with the law.
