Bhubaneswar: A female police constable died on the spot after the scooter she was riding was hit from behind by a trailer at Gunakhal Square under Chandili police station in Rayagada.
The deceased constable has been identified as Labanya Ganta (24), a resident of Khedipada village. Labanya was on duty for the Bahuda Yatra at the time of the accident.
According to reports, Labanya was heading to Rayagada’s Shradha Srikhetra for Bahuda Yatra duty when the accident occurred. The trailer driver lost control and hit the scooter while trying to brake near a hump. Labanya fell off the scooter and was crushed under the trailer, resulting in her instant death.
The accident also involved a bike coming from the opposite direction, which collided with the scooter soon after the mishap. The bike riders, identified as Kantarao Kadraka (40) and Subarao Kadraka (40) from Munigaon, are currently undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital with serious injuries.
The police have seized the trailer and launched an investigation into the incident. The bike riders claimed they were returning from Jeypore to their village when the accident happened.
