Extremely Heavy Rain In Odisha: 8 Places Record Over 200 MM

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has witnessed extremely heavy rainfall, with eight places recording over 200 mm of rain. Jharsuguda recorded 205.2 mm of rainfall, while Deogaon received the highest rainfall at 306 mm.

Other areas that experienced significant rainfall include Laikera with 270.4 mm, Kirmera with 255.3 mm, and Kolabira and Kuchinda, both recording 233 mm of rainfall. Sundergarh received 207.8 mm of rainfall, and Bamara in Sambalpur experienced 285.4 mm.

Due to heavy rainfall, several areas, road in Jharsuguda district were inundated. The road at Old bus stand in Jharsuguda was submerged in knee-deep water.

The heavy rainfall has likely caused flooding and disruptions in the affected areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation lies over north Odisha adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, which may lead to continued heavy rainfall in the region. The IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts in Odisha, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
