Bhubaneswar: Former Chief Minister of Odisha and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik has been discharged from a hospital in Mumbai on Monday, where he was undergoing treatment following cervical spine surgery. The update was shared by his political secretary Santrupt Mishra, who informed that Patnaik will remain in Mumbai for a few more days to continue his recovery under medical supervision.

Patnaik had undergone surgery on June 22 at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. The procedure, which lasted around four hours, was performed by Dr. S Rajasekaran, a renowned spine surgeon from Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore.

Noted cardiologist and chairman of the Asian Heart Institute, Dr. Ramakanta Panda, who has been overseeing Patnaik’s overall recovery, stated that the BJD chief is recuperating well.

“Naveen Patnaik is doing well and was expected to be discharged by Sunday or Monday. He will require regular physiotherapy as part of the post-operative care,” Dr. Panda said.

Following his discharge from the ICU, Patnaik was shifted to a private room, where he was visited by a delegation of senior BJD leaders on Wednesday. His brother, Prem Patnaik, had earlier shared a video message on Monday updating the public about the former CM’s condition.

“Naveen had a procedure on Sunday and he’s doing well. He was able to walk a few steps to the bathroom on his own. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath and your good wishes, he will make a swift recovery,” Prem Patnaik had said.

Although no official timeline has been shared for his return to Bhubaneswar, party sources indicate that Naveen Patnaik will continue physiotherapy and rest in Mumbai for the immediate future, in line with doctors’ advice.

The update has brought relief to BJD workers and well-wishers across Odisha, many of whom have been closely following Patnaik’s health developments.
