Bhubaneswar: A person drowned in the Budhabalanga river in Nuandihi village under Bangiriposi police station in Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Bishikesan Dehury (50), a resident of Nuandihi village.
According to reports, Bishikesan had gone to bathe in the river on Tuesday after working in his paddyfield but did not return home. His body was found floating in the river on Wednesday morning.
Upon being informed, Bangiriposi police and the fire brigade team retrieved the body and took it to the Bangiriposi Community Health Centre.
Police, meanwhile, sent the body for post-mortem examination to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) and are investigating the case.
It is believed that the strong current in the river due to heavy rainfall might have swept him away, resulting in his drowning.
