Keonjhar: One person was killed and another critically injured after an elephant attack near Pichhulabeda village under Patna Tehsil in Keonjhar district on Friday late night.
The deceased has been identified as Biranchi Jena (42) of Suwanpur village under Jenapur police limits in Jajpur district. The injured, Jogendra Bahalia (60), hails from the Badachana police limits of the same district.
According to reports, the incident occurred while a team of four was conducting a soil survey for a proposed bridge over a canal in the area. The group was asleep in a tent when a wild elephant attacked them. While two managed to flee, Biranchi and Jogendra sustained injuries.
Patna Forest Officer Niranjan Sethi rushed to the spot and facilitated their rescue. Both were shifted to the Patna Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared Biranchi dead. Jogendra is undergoing treatment.
