Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has intensified its protest against the state government over the FM College student Soumyashri Bisi self-immolation incident. The party has announced a state-wide protest program where all Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) offices will be gheraoed on July 21. This decision was made at a press conference held at the BJD headquarters, Shankha Bhawan, where senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra informed about the protest.
The BJD is demanding justice for Soumyashri’s family and holding the State government responsible for the incident. The party had previously organised a Lok Seva Bhavan gherao program on July 16, which was met with police action. The BJD has also demanded the resignation of the Higher Education Minister and a judicial inquiry by a working judge of the High Court into the incident.
The protest is part of the party’s ongoing movement, which started on July 15 after Soumyashri’s death was announced. The BJD has vowed to intensify the movement until justice is served to Soumyashri’s family. The press conference was attended by MLA Gautam Buddh Das, former MP Pradeep Majhi, and senior general secretary Bhrugu Buxipatra.
