Puri: A 20-year-old college student died in a tragic road accident on Monday after being allegedly hit by a Fire Services vehicle on the National Highway near Chandanpur in Puri district.
The deceased, identified as Swayam Subham Senapati, was a first-year UG science student at Samanta Chandra Sekhar Junior College in Puri.
According to reports, the incident took place while Swayam was on his way to college from his residence. A Fire Services vehicle reportedly struck him on the highway. He was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the area. Personnel from Chandanpur police station reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The Fire Services vehicle involved in the mishap has been seized.
