Jajpur: A disturbing case involving the alleged sexual assault of a minor female sportsperson has taken a decisive turn in Jajpur, with police arresting three hockey coaches linked to the incidents.

The accused hockey coaches have been identified as Sandeep Swain, Sagar Nayak, and Sarthak Mohanty – all from Cuttack district.

According to reports, the ordeal began to unfold late on July 20th when the young athlete approached Jajpur Town Police Station around 11 PM. In her harrowing account, she detailed two separate attacks.

The first allegedly occurred in March while she was attending a sports event in Rourkela. There, coach Sandeep Swain of Odapada (Kishannagar police station) reportedly raped her. Tragedy struck the survivor again on the evening of July 3rd.

According to the complaint, Swain facilitated the abduction of the minor by fellow coaches Sagar Nayak, a native of Hulipur under  Kishannagar police limits and Sarthak Mohanty, a native of Mallikapur under Nemalo police limits. The duo allegedly took her on a motorcycle to a local hotel where they physically harassed her and attempted rape. Her frantic screams drew the attention of hotel staff, who intervened by knocking on the room door, allowing her to escape.

Acting swiftly on her testimony, police detained four individuals for interrogation. While Siddhant Raut (alias Chintu) of Ramchandrapur under Kishannagar police limits was questioned and released after evidence collection, Swain, Nayak, and Mohanty were formally arrested. The three accused underwent medical examinations at Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital.

Meanwhile, the victim’s statement was officially recorded before the Jajpur court on Monday, July 21st. Investigations continue under stringent provisions, including the POCSO Act, as authorities seek justice for the minor athlete.
