Bhubaneswar: A couple sustained injuries as a wall of their mud house collapsed in Keonjhar district due to torrential rains.
The victims have been identified as Benudhar Das and his wife Dhubuli Das of Kanjiasula village in Champua block.
According to sources, they were sleeping inside their house when the wall caved in. Neighbours rescued the couple from the debris and rushed them to Champua Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of Benudhar and Dhubuli is stated to be critical.
The regional weather department has predicted that the state will experience heavy rainfall for the next three days, with the possibility of rain continuing till July 28.
Going by the IMD forecast for today, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, with wind speeds reaching up to 30-40 kmph on Saturday. These districts have been put under an orange alert.
Apart from that, the regional weather office has issued a red alert for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. These two districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall today.
