Bhubaneswar: A young man was detained for allegedly attempting to rape the wife of an assistant professor at Fakir Mohan University within the campus residential quarters. He has been identified as Harihar Patra alias Shankar from Nilgiri of Balasore.
Police stated that the accused illegally entered the staff quarters and attempted the assault. Following the victim’s complaint, Remuna police arrested him, and he is currently under interrogation. A case has been filed, and he is scheduled to appear in court today.
Police are investigating how he breached the secure residential area and the reasons behind the incident.
Following the incident, the varsity authorities have tightened security on the campus. The security guard engaged in the staff quarters has been dismissed. Moreover, two security guards have been deployed at every entrance gate. Any labourers working on the campus would have to show their ID proof before entering the campus.
The Vice Chancellor said that the varsity authorities will write to the DGP for the establishment of a police outpost on the institution’s premises.
