Baripada: Four Persons were arrested in connection with the double murder case in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
The victims, identified as Sonali Dalei, wife of key accused Debashis Patra and Sonali’s mother Sumati Dalai, were murdered and buried in the courtyard of Debashis Patra’s house in Badanugaon village.
The accused individuals are Debashis Patra (36), a health worker at CHC Kuliana, Bharati Patra (60), Sambhunath Naik alias Babua (29), Sipun Pradhan alias Kala (25), informed Deepak Kumar Gachhayat, Additional SP.
The investigation revealed that Debashis Patra had planned and executed the murder of his wife Sonali and her mother due to matrimonial issues and family discord. He had previously been involved in similar cases and had a history of conflict with his second wife. The accused had dug a large ditch in an isolated area and sought help from Sambhunath Naik and Sipun Pradhan to tie up and murder the victims.
The police arrested Debashis Patra and the other accused individuals after they confessed to the crime. The bodies of the victims were recovered from the courtyard of Debashis Patra’s house, where they had been buried. The investigation is going on under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police.
Debashis Patra had married Sonali Dalei, the granddaughter of Ananta Dalei, after his first marriage ended in separation. However, the couple had frequent conflicts, and Sonali often stayed with her mother in Ambadubi village. Debashis Patra had allegedly planned the murder to end the family discord.
