Bhubaneswar: A first-year Plus-III student of Bhadrak Autonomous College was found hanging in a private hostel near the college on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Pushpa Rani Mallick of Lunga village under Basudevpur police limits.
According to reports, Pushpa had returned to the hostel from home on Monday and attended classes the same day. Later, she allegedly hanged herself in the hostel bathroom using a scarf. Hostel inmates discovered the body when they forced open the locked bathroom door in the morning.
Upon being informed, Bhadrak Town Police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
“The investigation is underway as per the law. A team of doctors has conducted the post-mortem. We are maintaining transparency and once the report is available, we will have more details. We have also seized her mobile phone and are reviewing the CCTV footage,” said Bhadrak SP Manoj Kumar Rout while speaking to reporters.
