Bhubaneswar: Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani on Saturday sentenced Subash Chandra Nayak, former Head Master-cum-Secretary of Rangapaju UP School under Tumudibandha block in Kandhamal district, to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for misappropriating government funds meant for school infrastructure.

Nayak was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 409 of the IPC, after being found guilty of diverting government money allocated for the construction of a classroom in the school.

Apart from the jail term, the court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on Nayak. Following the judgment, he was taken into custody and sent to jail to serve his sentence.

Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority to dismiss Nayak from service, noting that he had absconded from the school after committing the crime.
