Bhubaneswar: Vehicular traffic on the Taptapani Ghat stretch of National Highway-326 on the Ganjam-Gajapati border has resumed after restoration work.
According to reports, the vehicular movement was restored after engineers repaired a nearly 20-feet stretch near Belgada village which had caved in following heavy flow of rainwater from the hills. Due to the damage, police and the district administration had sealed the road by putting up barricades, affecting traffic on the key highway that connects several districts of South Odisha with neighbouring states.
It is pertinent to mention that heavy downpour on Thursday night had also caused landslides at Taptapani, Kaliborei, Chhedanai and Palukhala. Huge boulders, mud and trees had fallen on the road, blocking the highway. At some places, hill water was flowing over the road at a height of around three feet.
Upon being informed, personnel of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Sanakhemundi Fire Services and Patapur police launched initial clearance work.
The NHAI is now clearing the remaining debris and rocks with the help of heavy machinery.
