Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Surendra Behera, Superintending Engineer of the Irrigation Division in Angul, for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets. Behera was found to have amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income.
The vigilance department conducted simultaneous searches at eight locations linked to Behera, including his official residence and office chamber, paternal home and in-laws’ residence.
The searches conducted by the vigilance department revealed that Behera possessed a significant amount of assets that he could not account for satisfactorily. His properties include two multi-storeyed buildings – a triple-storeyed building in Sundargarh Town and a double-storeyed building in Rourkela’s Gopabandhu Nagar.
Additionally, Behera owns two flats, such as Flat Nos. 403 and 402 in Aurovila-1, Phase-3, Ghatikia, Bhubaneswar. He also has four high-value plots located in Sundargarh, Rourkela, and Purusottampur, Ganjam.
Furthermore, the searches uncovered cash amounting to Rs 2.33 lakhs and bank deposits approximating Rs 54 lakhs. These assets, according to the vigilance department, are disproportionate to Behera’s known sources of income.
