Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Balasore on Tuesday sentenced Kumuda Chandra Pradhan, former Assistant Engineer (Estimator) of the Lift Irrigation Division in Balasore, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for accepting a bribe.
According to an official release, Pradhan had demanded and accepted Rs 10,000 from a contractor in exchange for processing agreement papers related to the issuance of a work order. He was charge-sheeted under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The Special Judge (Vigilance), Balasore, found Pradhan guilty and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will approach the competent authority to initiate the process for stopping Pradhan’s pension benefits.
