Bhubaneswar: A bizarre incident unfolded in Pratappur village on the outskirts of Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district, where a man shared his bed with a highly venomous snake for an entire night. The snake slithered into the man’s house and cosily coiled itself inside the mosquito net with the man, without harming him.
It wasn’t until morning that the man discovered the Monocellate Cobra at the corner of his bed, and panic set in. The family quickly called the snake helpline, and a snake catcher rushed to the scene. The snake catcher successfully rescued the 8-foot-long snake without causing it any harm and later released it into a nearby forest.
“When I woke up from my slumber, I was panicked to see the snake sleeping in a coil in my bed corner. I came out of the net and informed the snake catchers, who successfully rescued it. “I am grateful to them that I closely escaped from the deadly snake,” the man said.
According to the snake helpline members, the snake’s presence in the hut was likely due to the muddy surroundings caused by continuous rain, which attracted the reptile to enter the premises. The family members breathed a sigh of relief that the snake did not harm the man during the night.
