Kendrapara: Thirteen days after the tragic death of a female student in Kathiapada under the jurisdiction of Pattamundai Rural Police Station, the postmortem report has confirmed that it was a case of suicide, not murder.
Addressing a press conference, Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria said, the postmortem report revealed that the student had poured petrol on herself before setting herself ablaze. She sustained 95 percent burn injuries, which led to her death.
The postmortem further established that the incident took place between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Supporting this timeline, CCTV footage confirmed that the girl’s parents had left for work around 7:40 AM and returned only at 11:30 AM, during which the incident occurred.
Earlier, police had arrested the student’s male friend, Pramod Behera, and produced him in court. However, SP Kataria clarified that the investigation remains open and further inquiries are underway.
