Bhubaneswar: Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, on Friday convicted two revenue officials for demanding and accepting bribes in connection with the issuance of income and caste certificates.
The convicted officials are Basanta Kumar Mishra, former Revenue Inspector (Retired), and Sisir Kumar Behera, Assistant Revenue Inspector, both of Sole Revenue Circle under Gurundia Tahasil in Sundargarh district. They were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 34 of the IPC.
The court sentenced each of them to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. Following the verdict, both convicts were taken into custody and sent to jail to serve their sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authorities to stop the pension of Mishra and to dismiss Behera from service in light of their conviction.
