Bhubaneswar: Hirakud Dam authorities have issued a warning due to the rising water level in the reservoir caused by heavy rainfall upstream.

The dam will open its gates tomorrow to release excess water, and caution is in place to mitigate potential flood risks. Residents in downstream areas are advised to remain alert and avoid entering the Mahanadi River.

District administrations in Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara are taking necessary precautions to ensure public safety. The Sambalpur district administration is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared for any eventuality.

Residents in the downstream have been warned to stay away from the river.
