Nabarangapur: The body of an unidentified woman was recovered from a reserved forest near the canal side close to Chikalpadar Village under Umarkote block in Nabarangapur district on Friday morning.
According to reports, some villagers who had gone out in the morning spotted the mutilated body of the woman and informed the police. Some clothes and a pair of shoes were also found near the spot, raising suspicion that she might have been raped and murdered.
On getting information, Umarkote police reached the spot, and launched an investigation. A scientific team from Nabarangapur and a sniffer dog squad have also been called in to assist in the probe.
Police said it is yet to be ascertained whether it is a case of murder or the woman died due to some other reason. The exact cause will be clear only after investigation and post-mortem report. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be established.
