Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall overnight has caused flash flooding in the Keonjhar district, particularly in the Telkoi area. The incessant downpour has led to waterlogging and submerged roads, leaving several places inaccessible.
According to reports, due to torrential downpour, the Samakoi River and other streams are swollen, with water overflowing onto the roads and bridges. The situation is dire, with the incessant rainfall bringing the region to a standstill and causing significant disruptions to daily life.
The bridge over the Samakoi River near the Telkoi Dakabangala is currently submerged under three feet of water. This has disrupted traffic between Telkoi and major cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Talcher, and Keonjhar. As a result, hundreds of passengers are stranded, and over a hundred vehicles, including passenger buses, are stuck on both sides of the bridge.
The Samakoi River is overflowing near Karadangi, and floodwaters are also inundating the Pitanali bridge.
The district administration, meanwhile, is urged to take immediate action to mitigate the effects of the flooding and ensure the safety of those affected. The situation is expected to worsen, and administration is working to find solutions to restore normalcy in the region.
