Dhenkanal: Two sub-inspectors were suspended for dereliction of duty after a 27-year-old woman attempted self-immolation in front of the SP office in Dhenkanal.
SP Abhinav Sonkar took action against the two police officers- Utkal Bijay Mohanty of Dhenkanal Town police station and Roslin Minja of Sadar police station, for dereliction of duty.
Lisa Sethi, who married Amar Jena from Ankrantipur village a few months ago, had been facing issues with her in-laws, who allegedly didn’t allow them to stay together, forcing them to live in a rented house in Angul.
The trouble began when Amar Jena’s cousin called Lisa and abused her. Despite reporting the incident to the Sadar police station, she was shuttled between two police stations – Sadar and the town police station – without any action being taken.
Frustrated with the lack of response, Lisa tried to end her life by pouring petrol on herself at the SP office on Saturday evening. Fortunately, police personnel intervened in time.
SP Abhinav Sonkar assured Lisa that action would be taken on her complaint.
