Bhubaneswar: A man sustained critical injuries after his SUV fell from the first floor of the Jagannath Ballav multi-level car parking facility in Puri on Sunday.
The driver is a resident of the Dhamara area.
According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle while reversing into a parking space. The SUV, which was in reverse gear, veered off the edge of the first floor due to the absence of a guard wall and crashed to the ground.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle appeared to lose balance during the manoeuvre. Locals rushed to the spot upon hearing a loud crash and rescued the driver from the mangled vehicle. He was immediately shifted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in critical condition.
The multi-level parking structure accommodates vehicles across three levels — ground, first, and second floors.
“I heard a loud noise while I was on a call. When I rushed outside, I saw the SUV falling. Fortunately, no one else was inside. We pulled the driver out and called for an ambulance,” said an eyewitness.
