Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to strengthen the governance of the iconic Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, the Odisha government on Tuesday issued a notification nominating 10 new members to the temple’s Managing Committee. The appointments were made under the provisions of the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1954 (Odisha Act 11 of 1955).
The notification was issued by Manas Ranjan Barik, Principal Secretary of the Law Department.
“In pursuance of clauses (i), (j), (k), and (l) of sub-section (1) of Section 6 of the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1954 (Odisha Act 11 of 1955), the State Government hereby nominates the following persons as members of the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee,” the notification stated.
The list of nominated members includes:
- Siddheswar Mohapatra, representing Mukti Mandap
- Krushna Chandra Sarmantray, representing Sevaks
- Madhusudan Singhari, Sevak
- Jagannath Pujapanda, Sevak
- Ganesh Dasmohapatra, Sevak
- Ramnarayan Gochhikar, Sevak
- Raghubir Das Maharaj, representing Mathas and other institutions, Balaramkot Matha
- Girish Chandra Murmu, former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India
- K. Sabat, Chartered Accountant
- Mahesh Kumar Sahoo, Chartered Accountant and resident of Bantala, Angul district
The formation of this Managing Committee is a key step in ensuring the effective administration and preservation of the temple’s religious and cultural heritage.
