Balasore: Heavy rainfall since overnight has left Balasore city severely waterlogged, disrupting daily life and causing immense difficulties for residents.
According to reports, Balasore District Headquarters Hospital and shops have been inundated with rainwater, adding to the distress of the people. Besides, drainage system, designed to handle excess rainwater, has failed to function properly due to clogging, exacerbating the problem.
The relentless downpour has created a flood-like situation in Balasore city, with multiple low-lying areas severely affected. Streets in areas like T Polo, Nua Sahi, and Telanga Sahi are submerged under nearly two feet of water, while Aadar Bazaar and Congress Gali have also been badly hit. Homes and shops in these areas remain inundated, causing immense difficulties for residents and disrupting daily life, said sources.
The situation is dire, with waterlogging expected to persist until the rain subsides and the water recedes.
Meanwhile, residents of the affected areas demanded immediate action to resolve the water-logging issues and prevent such incidents in the future.
It is learnt that a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal as of 0530 hrs IST today, September 2, 2025, due to the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast.
According to the regional India Meteorological Department, this system is expected to become more marked over the same region in the next 24 hours. The low-pressure area will move west-northwestwards across Odisha in the subsequent 24 hours, potentially bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall.
