Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities have opened 20 gates to release excess water from the reservoir due to the heavy inflow of floodwater from the Mahanadi River’s upper catchment area. As of today, four more gates were opened, bringing the total number of open gates to 20 – 13 on the left side and 7 on the right side.

According to reports, with the opening of four more gates, there is a likelihood of increased water flow downstream, which may lead to flooding in the Mahanadi riverbed areas. People living in the riverine areas are advised to stay away from the riverbed and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety and protect their properties.

The Hirakud Dam reservoir is receiving a heavy inflow of floodwater from the Mahanadi River’s upper catchment area, prompting the authorities to closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures to manage the floodwater effectively.
