Bhubaneswar: A sudden rise in the water level of the Kathajodi River on Friday evening has left over 20 cattle, including calves, stranded on a sandbed near Kajipatana in Cuttack district.
The herd, which was taken to graze in the riverbed earlier in the day, found its return route cut off as the water level surged, trapping the animals on an isolated patch surrounded by water.
Residents have meanwhile requested the district administration and to rescue the cattle as soon as possible.
Till the last report came in, rescue teams have reached the riverbed and started rescue operation.
