Bhubaneswar: A youth was hacked to death following a violent clash between two groups in Sheragada village in Ganjam district late Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Chandan Bisoi, who was staying in a rented house in the Konkarada village.
According to reports, the clash erupted during Ganesh visarjan (immersion) at Sheragada village around midnight. One group allegedly had the sarpanch’s support, while Chandan was part of the rival faction. The dispute turned violent and Bisoi was brutally attacked with sharp weapons.
Preliminary investigation suggests that around 20–25 youths arrived in cars and confronted the sarpanch in front of his house. The sarpanch and his supporters retaliated, leading to a violent scuffle that soon turned into a full-fledged attack. During the chaos, Bisoi was assaulted and fatally hacked.
On Saturday morning, locals spotted his blood-stained body and informed the police. The body was sent for autopsy to Hinjilicut. A scientific team also examined the spot.
Police have registered a case and seized the weapons used, including a knife and an iron rod.
Further investigation is on.
