Bhubaneswar: Police arrested three persons for allegedly gang-raping a woman in Bhubaneswar. The accused, identified Chandan Kumar Hati (also known as Chandu, aged 25), Prasanna Kumar Acharya (37), and Rajesh Kumar Das (32), have confessed to their crime before the police.
They allegedly committed the crime in a lodge in Chandrasekharpur area in the city after drugging the woman. The arrests followed a complaint filed at the Mahila Police Station, where the victim alleged the accused lured her from her village with false promises of meeting a music director to advance her singing career.
On September 10, the accused allegedly took her to a lodge in Chandrasekharpur, where one of them offered her a spiked soft drink, causing her to lose consciousness. The three men then sexually assaulted her. After regaining consciousness, the survivor was confined in a room, threatened to stay silent, and sent home.
She later confided in her elder sister, who helped her file a police complaint. Based on the complaint, police apprehended the accused in Jagatsinghpur district, where they admitted their involvement during interrogation. Rajesh Kumar Das, the caretaker of the lodge, facilitated the crime by allowing the accused to use the premises.
The police confirmed the use of intoxicants to incapacitate the victim before the assault. The accused were produced before a court on Saturday following their arrest.
