Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister congratulated the people of Odisha on surpassing the target of planting 75 lakh saplings under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, with over 1 crore saplings planted in a single day.
The campaign was launched to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
In a tweet, CM Majhi extended his gratitude to the people of Odisha for their overwhelming support, calling it a fitting tribute to the Prime Minister and a gift to Mother Earth. The initiative saw participation from nearly 25 lakh people across the state, with saplings planted in over 41,000 sites in all 30 districts.
“On the 75th birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, we set a target of planting 75 lakh saplings in Odisha under the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. With the extraordinary spirit and wholehearted participation of the people, we have not only met but surpassed this target, accomplishing the plantation of more than 1 crore saplings in a single day. This remarkable feat stands as a testament to Odisha’s collective resolve and deep commitment to environmental protection. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the people of Odisha for their overwhelming support, a truly fitting tribute to our respected Prime Minister and an enduring gift to Mother Earth”, his tweet reads.
It is pertinent to mention that among the districts, Sundergarh district secured the top spot by planting the highest number of saplings, while Koraput district ranked second and Keonjhar district took the third spot.
Sundergarh district leads the plantation drive with an impressive 14,21,618 seedlings planted. Following closely, Koraput secured the second position with 11,01,624 seedlings, while Keonjhar stands third with 10,42,927 seedlings. The fourth and fifth places go to Mayurbhanj and Kalahandi districts, which have planted 9,17,659 and 7,67,510 seedlings, respectively. At the bottom of the list, Deogarh recorded the least plantation with 1,31,885 seedlings by 4:30 p.m.
