Balasore: Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Pratyush Diwakar suspended three cops, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), for their alleged dereliction of duty in a minor girl’s abduction case.
The action was taken after the main accused in a minor girl’s abduction case escaped from police custody while being brought back to Odisha from Andhra Pradesh.
The suspended personnel include ASI Deepak Kumar Bhoi, Constable Bikas Kumar Mohapatra, and Reserve Constable Suchitra Majhi, who were part of the team that had successfully tracked down and arrested the accused in Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports, a minor girl’s mother filed a written complaint at Gopalpur police station on June 30, alleging that her daughter had been abducted by a youth from Aruhabada area. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case, and Balasore SP formed a team led by Gopalpur ASI to investigate the case.
On September 10, the team successfully tracked down the accused in Andhra Pradesh, where the minor girl was being held.
After coming to know about the kidnapper’s whereabouts, the police team left for Andhra Pradesh and successfully rescued the minor girl and apprehended the accused, Sanjay Rath, in Andhra Pradesh. While bringing them back to Odisha by train, the accused managed to escape from police custody during a late-night stopover, despite being accompanied by three police personnel. And the police team returned with the rescued minor girl, revealed sources.
Upon learning of the accused’s escape, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) has initiated an investigation and taken stern action against the cops involved in the case.
