Bhubaneswar: The Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur on Tuesday sentenced Kishore Kumar Nayak, former Forest Range Officer of Digapahandi in Ganjam district (Retired), to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for taking bribe.
Nayak had earlier been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹30,000 from a complainant. The bribe was allegedly taken in exchange for not initiating legal action against the complainant after seizure of timber from his house.
The court sentenced Nayak to four years RI along with a fine. Following the judgment, the convicted officer was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance has also stated that it will move the competent authority for stoppage of Nayak’s pension in view of his conviction.
