Bhubaneswar: The body of an elderly man was discovered at a passenger rest house in Anla Chack under Baisinga police station in Mayurbhanj district. The deceased, aged about 70, who remained unidentified, had reportedly been living in the area for over 40 years and was known to have a mild mental disorder.
Local residents described the old man as someone who would sweep shops and the surrounding areas in exchange for food and clothing. Due to his appearance, it was suspected that he might be from neighbouring West Bengal. However, he was unable to provide any information about his identity.
As the old man grew older, his health deteriorated, and he became dependent on begging for food. He would often spend his nights sleeping on garbage at the local passenger rest house. On Monday night, he apparently fell into a deep sleep, and despite efforts to wake him up, he did not respond.
The Baisinga police were informed, and an investigation was initiated. The body was sent for autopsy and is currently being kept at the morgue of the district Baripada hospital. The police are now appealing to the public for help in identifying the deceased. Anyone with information about the old man’s identity is urged to contact the Baisinga police station.
