Bhawanipatna: In a major crackdown, police seized a huge cache of illegally stored firecrackers from a residence in Jaipatna town of Kalahandi district.
Acting on the directives of the Kalahandi SP, a special squad of the district police, under the supervision of the Dharmagarh SDPO, raided the house of Bajrang Agrawal on Thursday.
During the raid, police recovered four mini trucks loaded with firecrackers, estimated to be worth between ₹25 and ₹30 lakh. The seized items were transported under police supervision to the Bhawanipatna police barracks for safe custody.
Agrawal was not present at the time of the raid. His wife, Lakshmi, was questioned by police, and a case has been registered at Jaipatna police station against him for illegal storage and sale of explosive materials.
Officials said that the large stockpile posed a serious safety risk to the surrounding locality.
With the festive season underway and following the recent firecracker explosion in Boudh, police have intensified operations across Kalahandi to curb the illegal storage and sale of firecrackers.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of supply and possible links to a wider network.
