Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday evening confirmed the formation of a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal (BoB) under the influence of a cyclonic circulation persisting over the east-central Bay and adjoining regions.
The system, which formed at 5:30 PM on September 30, is expected to move northwestwards in the coming hours.
According to the IMD, it is likely to intensify into a Depression over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 2.
Forecast models indicate that the weather system will continue its northwestward movement and is expected to cross the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of October 3.
Authorities have been advised to keep a close watch on further developments, as the system could bring heavy rainfall and squally winds to coastal districts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh during its landfall.
