Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as one of the top-performing states in the nationwide Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan (SNSPA), demonstrating exemplary outreach and impact in advancing women’s health and empowerment.

The fortnight-long campaign, held from September 17 to October 2, saw intensive healthcare and awareness activities across the state. Odisha ranked 4th nationally in overall outreach, with 71,132 health camps organized at Arogya Mandirs, primary health centres, and community health centres across both rural and urban areas.

Data from the campaign revealed that 1,04,72,912 women underwent free health checkups, placing Odisha 2nd in the country in terms of female participation. Key screenings included 12 lakh for hypertension, 12.2 lakh for diabetes, 3.2 lakh for oral cancer, 3.3 lakh for breast cancer, and 40,000 for cervical cancer. In addition, 6.5 lakh adolescent girls received counselling on menstrual hygiene.

The state also organized 523 voluntary blood donation camps, collecting 32,865 units of blood. Officials highlighted that Odisha’s strength lay in its gender-sensitive outreach and adolescent health initiatives, which positioned the state ahead of several larger states in specific health indicators.

According to the national data portal, Odisha’s achievements stand alongside high-performing states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. While Madhya Pradesh led in the total number of camps and screenings, Odisha distinguished itself through strong community mobilization and targeted cancer screenings.

Senior health officials credited the success to decentralized planning, district-level ownership, digital monitoring tools, and the proactive role of ASHA workers and self-help groups. They emphasized that Odisha’s model provides a replicable blueprint for strengthening preventive healthcare and community engagement across India.
