Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, police arrested 31 persons from two gambling dens under Daringbadi police station in Kandhamal district on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, Daringbadi police conducted surprise raids near Pramiladevi Residential College and the nearby bus stand. During the operation, police seized a total of eight bikes, 24 mobile phones, Rs 74,230 in cash, and 10 packets of playing cards.
“Of the 31 arrested, 22 were detained near the college and bus stand area, where the police recovered Rs 65,740 in cash, seven motorcycles, and 18 mobile phones. The remaining nine were caught at another gambling den close to the bus stand, where Rs 8,490 in cash, six mobile phones, and one motorcycle were seized,” said Baliguda SDPO Ramendra Prasad while briefing the media.
The police have initiated further investigations into the gambling network operating in the area.
